Meet Jeff Brett, founder and CEO of King Quality Construction, a leading provider of roofing, siding and windows in Long Island, New York. Brett started King Quality in 1992 with a vision to put both customers and employees first. Since then, King Quality has grown to serve hundreds of customers across Nassau County, Suffolk County and Bohemia, New York. In 2023, Brett decided to partner with Vertex Service Partners, an Alpine Investors-backed residential home improvement services platform with a focus on roofing and other exterior services. In this video and in the transcript below, Brett shares why he chose to partner with Vertex—in part, because Vertex shared his vision, values and passion for people-driven growth alongside the expertise, resources and network to help take King Quality to the next level.

Hi, my name is Jeff Brett, I’m the founder and CEO of King quality construction. My dream always was to have the best roofing company– originally on Long Island and eventually nationwide. I wanted to start a company and my vision was [to put] customers first and my employees first– and that’s where the magic started and our culture started.

Deciding to Partner with Vertex

With private equity (PE), IT and best in service, and the roll-ups having sheer size– I knew that was the future and I wanted to be able to choose my future and not settle. When I talked to some of the other PE firms, I felt like just another number in their system of how much money we’re going to make if we flip it or something else. That wasn’t my dream.

Thirty-two years ago, when I started, my dream and vision was to be the best roofing company in the country—and that’s what Vertex wanted. For Vertex and for King Quality, [we want] to be the best in service, the best in class and to be the number one roofer in the country– and I wanted to align with that.

Looking Towards Long-term Growth

Since the closing, some of the things that have happened is this January–which is typically a slow month– we’ve had our best January. We’re up 50% higher [in sales] than last January. And I can really say that that’s a big part because of Vertex, our advertising team and because of the help we’ve had in adjusting our spend. Our lead production has doubled, which is amazing.

Also, some of the things I don’t feel like doing, which are the back end [work] and the accounting– we’ve found amazing people that I would not have had access to that are taking so much pressure off me so I can do the things I like to do, like growing the business.

What this means for my employees is more opportunity. As the growth comes for King Quality, they’ll have opportunity to grow within the Vertex family. And that’s one of the things I’m most excited about.

I’ve always been involved in round tables in the industry, and I love to give back. What’s awesome and amazing about Vertex is every one of our founders, every one of our members has something that they’re an expert at. And I have something to learn and something to get from everybody– that is what makes it so magical.

When I think about the future of Vertex and our future teammates and partners, I think of people that think like me; people that got into this industry to be the best, to be number one and to be the name [they think of] when someone needs a roof. Those are the kinds of partners we’re looking for. They want to dominate the roofing industry– because that’s where we’re going.
